Woolwich School of Physical Culture.

Woolwich School of Physical Culture. This is a real photograph postcard, c. 1910. The sepia tint is original, i.e. it hasn’t faded. The corners are a little bumped and there is some minor chipping to the top edge. I think that this all shows clearly in the photograph. It is also a little grubby on the back but I haven’t tried to clean it.
Not posted but there is an address written on the back.
I’ve dated it to around 1910 for 2 reasons. Firstly, the hairstyles and moustaches look Edwardian and secondly, if it were a few years later I think they’d have all been soldiers.
My maternal grandparents met in Woolwich Arsenal. He was an army officer (Royal Artillery) and she was doing voluntary work in the Arsenal. This is only relevant because I can’t see anything military in the postcard photograph.
I have several Real Photograph postcards listed on my website. Hazeley Down real photograph postcard, postmarked 1915. for example. I never used to take much notice of photographic postcards. I preferred drawn ones by the likes of Louis Wain but, as I get older, I like the photographs more and more. If you spend any time looking at the faces of the members of the Woolwich School of Physical Culture………
