Fold-out cards, c.1910.

Fold-out cards. 1 of these (Snapshots) is in perfect condition. ‘How we pass the time’ has 3 taped repairs to the fold-out. ‘Seen through the glasses’ has a taped hinge and a slight water- stain. ‘What the man in the moon saw’ has actually fallen apart! I can’t find any publisher’s or printer’s names on any of them. I put them together because they look as if they belong together, they all came from the same source and there’s only 1 in perfect condition so they don’t have to be expensive.
I bought them from a retired auctioneer. They are the sort of thing that I would’ve kept 40 years ago because they’re very evocative of the Edwardian period. I have listed other cards on my website: postcards and similar cards that are difficult to categorise. Mickey Mouse postcard, 1938. for example. There’s a huge selection of postcards on http://eBay.co.uk and I can’t compete with that. I don’t know whether or not these fold-out cards fall into the category of ‘postcards’ so I’ve listed them in ‘ephemera’ instead. They were in the same collection as the dance cards Dance cards, late 19th. century.and calendars and there were no postcards. It’s all very confusing. Perhaps one day this website will be impossible to navigate because there’ll be so much diverse stuff here, rather like the shop used to be.
