A calendar in the form of a fan, 1878. Printed in chromo-litho. with shells, coral and seaweed. Joseph Mansell, London. Perfect condition apart from the bow which holds it all together. I think it’s a replacement. 4.75 inches long.

Novelty calendar in the form of a fan, 1878. Chromo- litho. printing on glossy card. Inscr. at the base:”Joseph Mansell, London.”
It’s 4.75 inches long and printed on glossy card. A lot of these British publishers had their chromo-litho. printing done in Germany. This looks like German printing to me. It’s generally of better quality than that of other countries. Maybe it was also competitively priced but I have no proof of that.
The calendar is in perfect condition although I doubt that the material bow at the base is original. Calendar, 1926. is another novelty calendar I’ve listed on the website. The calendar is unused in that it hasn’t been written on.
This fan-shaped calendar is from my own collection of ephemera but, if I were looking to collect now, I’d definitely keep an eye on http://eBay.co.uk You need to have an eye for what is real and what is repro. and sometimes it’s hard to tell from a photograph. However, if they’re honest vendors it shouldn’t be a problem. I have more ephemera than I realise. Every time I open a drawer I find paper things I’d completely forgotten about. Not so much a collection: more of an amalgamation.
