At the top of the drawing is written:”Hop Pickers”, “Mother” and “Daughter.” At the bottom is written:”The originals of these drawings were taken from life in the Kentish Hop Fields” which implies that they are copies of some well-known drawings. They are signed and dated 1910.

Hop pickers. C.1910.These are 2 pages from a sketchbook, on pale blue paper, measuring 13.25 x 8.5 inches. ‘Hop Pickers.’ In very good condition because they’ve never been framed. “Mother.” and “Daughter.” It also says:”The originals of these drawings were taken from life in the Kentish hop fields.” To me, this means that they are copies of famous drawings done a few years before.
I’ve listed several drawings and paintings from this album. I have more which I’ll list from time to time. The album was in pieces and had long fallen apart. For example: Two pencil drawings of Kent, 19th. century. The average date seems to be 1910. Some things are 5 years older and the most recent dated piece is from 1920. The standard varies widely and, although it’s a sketchbook, it’s also an autograph album.
The rounded corners might be a minor problem for the framer.
Hop picking in Kent was a popular way of spending the summer, especially for East-Enders from the poorer parts of London http://flashbak.com
has some good film of hop pickers in the 1900-50 period.
Hop pickers, c.1910 would frame well. I think that the 2 pages would look good in 1 frame. Either way, I see a simple gilt frame for them.
