Lucet.

Lucet. For cord making. I’ve looked this up and people still make cords. There are a lot of new ones available online but I still have no idea how to use one.
This one is wooden and measures 3.75 x 2 inches.
I’ve looked at this long and hard and think it’s antique. Being wooden, it would be quite easy to fake but I’d have thought this one would be 19th century. I wouldn’t want to be too specific about date but I’d have thought about 1860.
I bought this lucet at Long Melford antique fair in the village hall on the first Wednesday of every month. It was sold to me as antique and I did buy it from a reputable dealer. Also, it was in a collection of antique needlework tools.
Needlecase, French, c.1850. I don’t have many needlework tools on my website. I’m told that they’re not as popular as they used to be (like most things) but they do seem to sell. It’s a pity because they are mostly the sort of things that I could put in a Jiffy bag and post.
Looking online, there are several antique lucets for sale on Etsy http://Etsy.com . Personally, I haven’t seen many wooden lucets but there are several for sale out there.
